SHAH ALAM – Police have confirmed that there was no criminal element in the death of Akiko Okumura, the wife of entrepreneur and influencer Ridzuan Ridzokumura.

Ridzuan, whose real name is Abdul Ridzuan Abdul Mutalib, 50, shared the heartbreaking news on social media on Friday but had never revealed the cause of his wife's death.

Earlier today, Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussien Omar Khan, verified that the deceased was indeed Ridzuan’s wife. Akiko was found dead after reportedly falling from the fourth floor of a condominium in SS16.

Following further investigations, authorities have ruled out any signs of foul play in the incident.

The case has been classified as sudden death (SDR), with no elements of crime found so far. However, Hussien said the police will conduct a comprehensive investigation, including from a criminal perspective.

"Although the investigation falls under SDR, the process remains the same as a regular criminal investigation. We will examine all possibilities, including whether there were any criminal elements or if it was an act by the victim herself.

"If there is any evidence or witnesses indicating criminal elements, we will reclassify the case accordingly," he said during a press conference at the Selangor Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) on Tuesday.

Hussein added that the Japanese embassy and the victim’s family have been notified about the incident.

He also urged the public to refrain from making negative speculations about the case without verifying the facts.

"I urge the public not to make any negative comments without knowing the details of the case.

"The investigation is still ongoing, and we will thoroughly review all aspects before making any conclusions," he said.

Further commenting on the case, he confirmed that the victim’s husband had been called in to assist with the investigation.

Last Friday, media reports stated that a Japanese woman had died after falling from the fourth floor of a condominium in SS16, Subang Jaya, on Friday morning.

Subang Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, said the victim, believed to be in her 50s, was found lying face down on the ground by a police patrol team that responded to an emergency call via MERS 999.
