Singapore to have more MPs after GE2025
According to the White Paper on the Committee's report released on Tuesday, it has recommended the adoption of 33 electoral divisions (EDs) for the upcoming GE, with a total of 97 MPs to be returned.

SINGAPORE - Singapore will have more elected Members of Parliament (MPs) after this year’s General Election (GE), following the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee’s recommendation.
According to the White Paper on the Committee's report released on Tuesday, it has recommended the adoption of 33 electoral divisions (EDs) for the upcoming GE, with a total of 97 MPs to be returned.
This is an increase from the current 31 EDs and 93 MPs.
The committee stated that the new divisions will comprise 15 Single Member Constituencies (SMCs) and 18 Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs).
The number of electors in the latest Provisional Registers of Electors as of Feb 1, 2025, is 2,753,226 - an increase of 101,791 electors from 2,651,435 electors at GE2020.
The committee said it used GE2020 parameters to guide its recommendations, including the average size of GRCs, the proportion of MPs elected from SMCs, and the average ratio of electors to elected MPs.
The committee, in a separate statement, said it had submitted its report to the Prime Minister on March 7.
"The Government has accepted the recommendations of the committee and will implement them at the next GE,” it said.
The next GE in Singapore must be held by November this year.
The Straits Times (ST) reported that in the past four elections, the time between the electoral boundaries committee’s formation and Polling Day has ranged from four to 11 months. - BERNAMA
