SUBANG JAYA – The preliminary report on the investigation into the pipeline explosion in Putra Heights is expected to be completed within two weeks, following the full stabilisation of the affected area.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that a technical team comprising multiple agencies is actively working to stabilise the site to enable a safe and thorough investigation.

“Once the area is stable, we can proceed with excavation and collect physical evidence such as pipe debris, explosive materials or other related components.

“The Public Works Department (JKR) estimates that two weeks will be needed for the preliminary report, with an additional two weeks required to finalise the full report,” he said during a press conference at the Incident Control Centre in Putra Heights on Friday.

He noted that potential delays could occur if adverse weather conditions persist.

“The explosion crater is currently filled with rainwater and we are working to drain it. If heavy rains continue, it will slow down technical operations,” he said.

Hussein said only after the water was removed and the ground structure was stabilised would the technical team be allowed to begin excavation and a detailed inspection.

The technical investigation was led by the Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH) with support from agencies such as JKR, Petronas, the Minerals and Geoscience Department, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and the Fire and Rescue Department.

Meanwhile, a criminal investigation was conducted by the police to determine whether elements of sabotage or negligence played a role in the massive explosion.

“The explosion on April 1 created a large crater measuring eight metres deep and 70 metres wide, believed to have resulted from the rupture of one of three petroleum gas pipelines at the site.

“At present, all involved parties are fully committed to completing the investigation on schedule. Once the report is finalised, it will be submitted to the relevant committee for further deliberation,” he added.
