KUALA LUMPUR - The police are not ruling out the possibility that Datin Seri Pamela Ling Yueh staged her own abduction.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the investigation was ongoing and the possibility of a staged abduction was being explored.
"It is one of the angles in our investigation. We will conduct a thorough investigation to rule out the possibilities," he said at the KL police headquarters on Thursday (May 8).
CCTV footage showed the victim followed her abductors' orders as she was taken from the e-hailing car, he said.
"There was no scuffle as the victim followed the instructions of her abductors," he added.
When asked if professionals were involved, Rusdi said it was subjective.
"Give us space to investigate the case and ensure her safe return," he said.
Asked if the victim was still in the country, Rusdi said immigration records showed she was in Malaysia.
"However, she might have been taken out using illegal routes. We are using all resources to track her down," he said.

On April 9, Ling was summoned to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya to assist with an investigation under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act.
She reportedly went missing on her way to the appointment and her lawyer lodged a police report on the same day.
As of Sunday, no ransom demand has been made in connection with her disappearance.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain previously said Ling's husband could be a suspect in her disappearance.
"For now, the possibilities are along those lines and perhaps others are involved as well," he said. - THE STAR
